At RevitaLash® Cosmetics, we’ve recently embarked on a journey to enhance our philanthropy, sustainability, and ethos efforts. At the end of 2019, we appointed former VP of International Sales, Dariel Sidney, to lead the Global charge as our new VP of Philanthropy & Ethos. As the daughter of RevitaLash Cosmetics Co-Founder, Gayle Brinkenhoff, and someone who has been with the company since its inception, we knew Dariel was the perfect choice for such an important role.

Though it’s only been a few months, the impact we’ve made has been incredibly meaningful, both in our office and outside. Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:

Philanthropy

Philanthropy has always been at the heart of RevitaLash Cosmetics, and we’re doing more now than ever. In just the last three months we’ve been able to donate nearly $50,000 to multiple cancer research centers and charities, including City of Hope, the Ridley Tree Cancer Center in Santa Barbara, Young Survivors Coalition, and Direct Relief Maternal and Child Health Programs. In addition, our RevitaLash Cosmetics HQ spent the day volunteering at Direct Relief, packing Maternal Hygiene Kits for women. This is only the beginning to all we plan to achieve, and we look forward to ramping up our philanthropy as we move throughout the year.

Sustainability

In kicking off our eco-journey, we decided it was best to bring in an accredited sustainability expert to guide our process; someone who understands the technicalities of “greening”, including improving carbon footprint, minimizing impact, etc. - and how those things should be measured.  Our sustainability expert advised us to start at home, as that’s where we could make the quickest impact, and expand outward from there. Below are some improvements we’ve made thus far:

  • Our packaging and cello wrapping is now 100% recyclable
  • We’ve removed all single use plastics from our office
  • Our cleaning products are now, well, clean! We went from an “F” grade to an “A” in terms of their eco-friendliness
  • We have removed all single use coffee pods from the office and replaced them with drip coffee pots
  • We are in the process of getting certified as a green business in Ventura County
  • We are auditing our trash, re-learning and learning how to properly recycle, and implementing strict recycling policies
Ethos

The health, happiness and wellbeing of RevitaLash Cosmetics team members has always been important to us, so we’re thrilled to bring more creativity with what we can offer. Below are some additional benefits and programs we’ve instituted in the last few months as a way to take care of, and thank, our incredible employees:

  • 8 hours volunteer time off (VTO)
  • 1 Self-Care Day per year
  • Student Loan Debt Repayment Assistance
  • Monthly RevitaClasses (including Lunch and Learns)
  • Move Monday group fitness classes
  • Upgraded coffee offerings from local roasters
  • Healthy, wholesome snacks in our kitchens

This is only the beginning. As we move through this process further we are excited to share our green effort metrics as a way to hold ourselves accountable to our mission, and the planet too!  We remain inspired to make further impacts in philanthropy and sustainability while continuing to lift our work force. Stay tuned for more!
